Demolition of the existing roof. The existing roof structure currently consists of a 3-sided hipped roof with 25-degree slopes with two dormers at the front and two dormers of different sizes at the rear that protrude brusquely from the low pitches. The loft room is interrupted by different beams that provide very low headroom and varying heights throughout the space making it uncomfortable and unsafe. The proposal is to build a new mansard roof, only 200mm higher than the existing and below the parapet of the party wall adjacent to No.3 Richmond Hill. The proposal includes four new dormers with the same window proportions and materials matching existing. The proposal aims to achieve a more coherent and liveable space inside, while at the same time respecting the building, therefore this new roof will also keep an important recess from the external walls to maintain the existing overall scale of the roof and keep the character of the BTM.
