The M42 Motorway (Between M5 Junction 4a And M42 Junction 5, And Between Junction 7 And The A42 At Appleby Magna) And Connecting Roads (Temporary Prohibition Of Traffic) Order 2022
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that National Highways Limited (Company No. 09346363) intends to make an Order on the M42 Motorway, in the Counties of Worcestershire, Warwickshire and Leicestershire and the Metropolitan Borough of Solihull, to enable maintenance and improvement works, to be carried out in safety. The works are expected to take place overnight between 19:00 and 06:00 (07:00 on Saturday and Sunday mornings) during a period starting on Tuesday 3 January 2023 and ending on Saturday 23 December 2023. The effect of the Order will be to impose prohibitions on the following lengths of carriageway:
(i) the eastbound carriageway of the M42 from its junction with the northbound carriageway of the M5 at Junction 4a, to its junction with the link road leading to the northbound carriageway of the M42, at Junction 3A;
(ii) the northbound carriageway of the M42 from its junction with the link road leading from the eastbound carriageway of the M42, at Junction 3A, to its junction with the exit slip road at Junction 5;
(iii) the northbound carriageway of the M42 from its junction with the link road, at Junction 7, leading to the northbound carriageway of the M6, to a point 400 metres north of the centreline of the B4114 Birmingham Road overbridge;
(iv) the northbound carriageway of the M42 from a point 80 metres north of the centreline of Marsh Lane overbridge to its junction with the A42, at Appleby Magna;
(v) the southbound carriageway of the M42 from its junction with the A42, at Appleby Magna, to a point 80 metres north of the centreline of Marsh Lane overbridge;
(vi) the southbound carriageway of the M42 from a point 400 metres north of the centreline of the B4114 Birmingham Road overbridge, to its junction with the link road, at Junction 7, leading from the northbound carriageway of the M6;
(vii) the southbound carriageway of the M42 from its junction with the entry slip road at Junction 5, to its junction with the link road leading to the westbound carriageway of the M42 at Junction 3A;
(viii) the westbound carriageway of the M42 from its junction with the link road leading from the southbound carriageway of the M42, at Junction 3A, to its junction with the southbound carriageway of the M5 at Junction 4a;
(ix) the link road leading from the westbound carriageway of the M42 to the northbound carriageway of the M5 (M5 Junction 4A);
(x) the link road leading from the eastbound carriageway of the M42 to the northbound carriageway of the M42, at Junction 3A;
(xi) the link road leading from the southbound carriageway of the M42 to the westbound carriageway of the M42, at Junction 3A
(xii) the link road leading from the southbound carriageway of the M42 to the M40, at Junction 3A;
(xiii) the link road leading from the northbound carriageway of the M42, at Junction 7A, to the southbound carriageway of the M6;
(xiv) any slip road leading to or from the lengths of carriageway described in (i) to (viii) above; and
(xv) any emergency refuge areas adjacent to the lengths of carriageway described in (i) to (viii) above.
During any road closures traffic will be diverted via alternative junctions
of the M42, M5 and M6 Motorways and local roads. These diversions will
be clearly indicated by traffic signs throughout the area.

The duration of each prohibition will vary depending upon the nature of the work being undertaken on each occasion. The prohibitions will not apply to emergency services, works, winter maintenance, or traffic officer vehicles. The prohibitions will only apply during such times and to such extent as shall be indicated by traffic signs. The Order comes into force on Tuesday 27 December 2022 and will expire on 23 December 2023.
