Proposed works on Quantock Common restoration of most of the existing Crowcombe Park Gate parking area to heathland and creation of a new smaller car park nearer to the Crowcombe Park Gate cattle grid. William Jenman of the Quantock Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty has applied to the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs for consent under section 38 of the Commons Act 2006 to carry out restricted works on Quantock Common. The Planning Inspectorate will decide the application on behalf of the Secretary of State. The proposed works are: Creation of a 2920 sq m new Car Park along the track leading from Crowcombe Park gate towards The Lodge, with an informal crushed inert stone surface. Car park to be closed during the annual Pony Gather each September. Creation of a new buff coloured tarmac access track to the new car park from the first pull-in north of the cattle grid (area included in the total 2920 sq m above). Restoration of 2377 sq m of the existing parking area near Crowcombe Park Gate, either side of the bridleway, to heathland using Capton quarry spoil in-fill, coir matting, and heather cuttings as a seed source. A redundant track to the north west to be similarly restored. 724 sq m of the flat bottom area of car park to be retained, repaired, and resurfaced with tarmac (5m nearest the road only) and crushed inert stone.
