(Old Spittal Farm Junction) (Temporary Restriction And Prohibition Of Traffic)

Notice Is Hereby Given

that National Highways Limited intends to make an Order on the A66 Trunk Road, in County Durham, to enable weather station, electrical loop and road sensor installation works to be carried out in safety.
The works are expected to start on Tuesday 25 October 2022 for 2 weeks, or until completed, and will take place between 8pm and 6am. The effect of the Order will be, at times during the works, to:
(i) impose a temporary 40mph speed restriction on the A66 westbound carriageway from

80 metres east of Valley Farm access road to 400 metres west of Old Spittal Farm Junction, a distance of 1900 metres;
(ii) close the A66 westbound carriageway from 100 metres east of the Old Spittal Farm Junction to 100 metres west of Old Spittal Farm Junction, a distance of 200 metres; and

(iii) close the gap in the central reservation adjacent to the A66 Old Spittal Farm Junction.

Traffic lights will be used to manage the closure which will only take place for very short durations at the times of lowest traffic volume. Traffic signs will indicate the extent of the restrictions (which will not apply to emergency service vehicles or special forces vehicles) and prohibitions (which will not apply to emergency service vehicles or vehicles being used in connection with the said works or for winter maintenance or traffic officer purposes). Access will be maintained at all times to premises and property which are accessible from, and only from, the A66.
