Public Engagement Event
Harker Substation Extension
National Grid Electricity Transmission (NGET) is developing plans to extend the existing substation at Harker, near Carlisle, in Cumbria in order to replace and rebuild the existing equipment. This will enable us to upgrade the existing network and increase capacity across the electricity transmission system.
The substation at Harker has been in service since the 1960s. As the equipment on site gets older, technology advances, and demand on the network increases, we will need to replace equipment at Harker Substation. This will allow it to continue to serve as a critical point on the GB electricity network, connecting energy supplies between Scotland and England.
The work will also contribute to the Government's ambition of reaching net zero carbon emissions by 2050 and the UK's transition to the use of clean energy.
The latest plans will be displayed at a public engagement event.
Date: Thursday 8 September 2022, 3:00pm-7:00pm
Venue: Rockcliffe Centre, The Courtyard, Rockcliffe, Carlisle CA6 4AA
This event provides the opportunity to view the proposals and provide feedback on the proposed development. We are also hosting virtual events for anyone unable to attend the event on Thursday 8 September.
Your comments will be considered prior to the submission of a planning application to the local planning authority.
