The M48 Motorway (Severn Bridge Half Marathon) (Temporary Prohibition Of Traffic) Order 2022
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the Secretary of State for Transport intends to make an Order on the M48 motorway in South Gloucestershire, the County of Gloucestershire and the County of Monmouthshire for the purpose of facilitating the holding of a relevant event. The effect of the Order would be to authorise the Sunday morning closure of:
(i) the westbound and eastbound carriageways of the M48 over the Severn Bridge between junctions 1 and 2;
(ii) the eastbound entry slip road at M48 junction 2;
(iii) the westbound entry slip road at M48 junction 1;
(iv) the footpath/cycle track adjacent to the eastbound carriageway of the M48 over the Severn Bridge;
This measure would be in the interests of road safety during the holding of the Severn Bridge Half Marathon.
The Order would come into force on 26 August 2022 and have a maximum duration of one month. However, it is expected that the carriageway and slip road closures would be in operation between 07.30 and 12.30 on Sunday
28 August 2022.
During the closure of the westbound carriageway, vehicles wishing to travel westbound over the bridge would be diverted at M4 junction 21 to take the M4 westbound over the Prince of Wales Bridge to junction 23A (Magor), then eastbound on the M4/M48 towards Chepstow. During the eastbound carriageway and slip road closure, vehicles wishing to travel eastbound would be diverted on the same route in the reverse direction. Traffic wishing to join the M48 westbound at junction 1 would be diverted on the M48/M4 eastbound to the Almondsbury Interchange, then southbound on the M5 to the A38 Interchange at junction 16. Traffic would turn at this junction to join the M5 northbound to Almondsbury Interchange and then follow the diversion route described above over the Prince of Wales Bridge. The closures, and diversion routes would be clearly indicated by traffic signs during the event. The closures would not apply to emergency service vehicles.
