(Experimental Traffic Management) Order 2021

NOTICE IS GIVEN that on 18 July 2022 Oxfordshire County Council made various orders under the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 and all enabling powers. The effect of the Orders (listed below) which come into force on 25 July 2022 is to continue permanently the measures allowing scooter use on the public highways subject of the above Experimental Orders since February, March and May 2021 respectively (which are hereby revoked). This enables electrically powered hired E-Scooters to use roads and access some other areas permitted by pedal cycles. General information):
1. E-Scooter is defined as a motor vehicle, electrically assisted, for use by one-person, maximum speed of 15mph, speed controlled by hand with a default cut-off switch.

2. For use by persons 17yrs and over with a current UK drivers' licence. Insurance must be part of the hire arrangement.

3. Can be used on roads, designated cycle lanes, bus lanes and cycle tracks, and on shared use pavements i.e. where advisory cycle lanes are marked/signed to separate use from pedestrians. (Not for use where pedestrians only are permitted e.g. normal roadside pavements and shopping malls etc.)

4. Where existing traffic signs prohibit use by motor vehicles but permit cycles, E-Scooters will similarly be permitted access.

In each of the below Orders the exemption for use by E-Scooters has been added -i.e. where general prohibitions of entry, or the use of bus and cycle lanes, or left or right turns are signed against motor vehicles, but are permitted for cycles, E-Scooters will also be permitted:
