The A66 Trunk Road (Tornado Way Roundabout To Long Newton Interchange)
(Temporary Restriction And Prohibition Of Traffic)
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that National Highways Limited intends to make an Order on the A66 Trunk Road, in the Unitary Authorities of Darlington and Stockton-on-Tees, to enable safety barrier renewal, streetlighting and drainage works to be carried out in safety. The works are expected to start on Wednesday 10 August 2022 for 20 weeks, or until completed. The effect of the Order will be, for 24 hours a day, at times during the works, to:
(i) impose a temporary 50mph, 40mph, 30mph, 20mph and 10mph speed restriction on the A66 eastbound carriageway from its junction with the B6279 Tornado Way Roundabout to 900 metres east of Sandy Leas Lane Junction, a distance of 8950 metres;
(ii) impose a temporary 50mph, 40mph, 30mph, 20mph and 10mph speed restriction on the A66 westbound carriageway from a point 2540 metres east of the exit slip road at Long Newton Interchange to its junction with Tornado Way Roundabout, a distance of 8950 metres;
(iii) impose a temporary 40mph and 20mph speed restriction on the A66 eastbound and westbound exit and entry slip roads at Long Newton Interchange;
(iv) impose a temporary 40mph and 20mph speed restriction on the A66 westbound exit and entry slip roads at Sadberge Junction;
(v) close the layby adjacent to the A66 eastbound carriageway approximately 482 metres east of Little Burdon Roundabout;
(vi) close the layby adjacent to the A66 eastbound carriageway approximately 1211 metres west of the exit slip road at Long Newton Interchange; and
(vii) close the layby adjacent to the A66 westbound carriageway approximately 510 metres west of the entry slip road at Long Newton Interchange.
It will be necessary, at times during the works, Sunday to Thursday nights between 8pm and 6am, Friday nights between 8pm and 9am and Saturday nights between 8pm and 10am and between the same times over subsequent nights until completed, to:
(viii) close the A66 westbound carriageway from the exit slip road at Long Newton Interchange to its junction with Little Burdon Roundabout, a distance of 5300 metres;
(ix) close the A66 eastbound carriageway from its junction with Little Burdon Roundabout to the entry slip road at Long
Newton Interchange, a distance of 5300 metres;
(x) close the slip roads as mentioned above in(iii) and (iv);
(xi) close the A66 eastbound high load route adjacent to Hangthorne Farm, a distance of 810 metres; and
(xii) ban vehicles from entering or leaving the A66 adjacent to the lengths of carriageway as described in (vii) and (viii).
During the closures, suitably signed alternative routes will be available. Traffic management will be in force 24 hours a day and traffic signs will indicate the extent of the restrictions (which will not apply to emergency service vehicles or special forces vehicles) and prohibitions (which will not apply to emergency service vehicles or vehicles being used in connection with the said works or for winter maintenance or traffic officer purposes). Access will be maintained at all times to premises and properties which are accessible from, and only from, the A66.
