Great North Way, Temporary 40mph Speed Limit

The A1 GLA Road (Great North Way, London Borough Of Barnet) (Temporary 40 Mph Speed Limit And Banned Turn) Order 2022

1. Transport for London hereby gives notice that it has made the above-named Traffic Order under section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 for the purpose specified in paragraph 2. The effect of the Order is summarised in paragraph 3.

2. The purpose of the Order is to enable traffic signal modernisation works to take place on the A1 Great North Way.

3. The effect of the Order will be to prohibit any vehicle from:

(1) entering or proceeding on the northern arm of the Five Ways Corner roundabout connecting the northbound carriageway of the A41 / A1 Watford Way with the southbound carriageway of the A41 /A1 Watford Way and the eastbound carriageway of the A1 Great North Way;

(2) exceeding a speed of 40 MPH on the southbound carriageway of the A1 / A41 Watford Way from a point 2 metres north­west of the extended common boundary of Nos. 480 and 482 Watford Way, to opposite a point 2 metres north-west of the extended common boundary of Nos. 457 and 459 Watford Way;

(3) exceeding a speed of a speed of 40 MPH on the eastbound carriageway of the A1 Great North Way between its junction with Watford Way and a point 3 metres east of the extended common boundary of Nos. 37 and 39 Watford Way.

The Order will be effective between 25th July 2022 and 5th August 2022 every night from 8:00 PM to 5:00 AM or when the works have been completed whichever is the sooner. The prohibitions will apply only during such times and to such extent as shall from time to time be indicated by traffic signs.
4. The prohibitions will not apply in respect of anything done with the permission or at the direction of a police constable in uniform or a person authorised by Transport for London.

5. At such times as the traffic prohibitions are in force an alternative route will be indicated by traffic signs: northbound via the A1, Mill Hill Circus Roundabout and Great North Way and then to normal route of traffic.
