The Isle of Wight Council (Various Streets, Isle of Wight)
(Speed Limits) Order No 1 2022

Notice is hereby given that the Isle of Wight Council in exercise of their powers under section 82, 83, 84 and Part IV of Schedule 9 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 and with all other enabling power and after consultation with The Chief Officer of Police has made an order, the effect of which will be:

1. To enact the provisions within this order subject to the following amendments:

2. To introduce a 30mph speed limit in the following lengths of road:

a) Church Place - between a point 117 metres east of its junction with Copse Lane to its junction with the Causeway, a distance of approximately 85 metres.

b) The Causeway - between its junction with Church Place and a point 120m south-east of Public Bridleway F61, a distance of approximately 345m.

3. To introduce a 40mph speed limit in the following lengths of road: a) The Causeway - between a point 120m south-east of Public Bridleway F61 and its junction with Afton Road, a distance of approximately 525 metres.

4. No speed limit imposed by this order applies to vehicles falling within regulation 3(4) of the Road Traffic [Exemptions (Special Forces) (Variation and Amendment) Regulations 2011 when used in accordance with regulation 3(5) of those regulations.

The amendments are being proposed to facilitate the passage on the road or any other road of any class of traffic (including pedestrians) and for avoiding danger to persons or other traffic using the road or any other road or for preventing the likelihood of any such danger arising.
This Order will come into operation at 0001 hours on 17 June 2022.
Any person who desires to question the validity of any of the said orders on the grounds that it is not within the powers of Section 1 of the said Act, as amended, or on the grounds that any requirement of the Act or any instrument made under it has not been complied with in relation to this order may, within six weeks of the date hereof, apply to the High Court for the purpose.
