Maiden Castle, Temporary Road Closure

(A177 Maiden Castle and Whinney Hill junction, Durham) (Temporary Road Closure) Order 2022
The Council proposes to make an Order under the Road Traffic Regulation Act, 1984 as amended, Section 14 (1) to prohibit all vehicular traffic from proceeding on 600 metres of A177 between its junctions with the access to Houghall College and Mountjoy roundabout and also including a 35 metre length of Whinney Hill, Durham to enable carriageway resurfacing works to be undertaken. Alternative route from the southern side of the closure from A177 south easterly to Junction 61 then south westerly then westerly on A688, then northerly on A167 and north easterly on A177 South Road to the northern side of the closure, and vice versa. A local diversion will be signed for the Whinney Hill closure via Hallgarth Street, New Elvet (Leazes Bowl roundabout) and Old Elvet, and vice versa. The maximum duration of the Order is 18 months. The proposed works are to commence on 15/6/22 from 7pm and are anticipated to be completed in 8 nights. On occasions, alternative dates for closure may be necessary and these will be signed accordingly.
