Independent Persons to assist our Monitoring Officer and Standards Committee Authority for Westmorland and Furness Council The Shadow Authority for Westmorland and Furness Council is looking to appoint up to two Independent Persons. It is proposed that the term of appointment will be for an initial fixed term of 2 years. The role will be to assist the Shadow Authority in promoting and maintaining high standards of conduct amongst its elected councillors. From Vesting Day (i.e., 01 April 2023) of the new unitary authority - Westmorland and Furness Council - the role will be to assist Westmorland and Furness Council in promoting and maintaining high standards of conduct amongst its elected councillors and town and parish councils also. Among the skills required are a keen interest in standards in public life, a wish to serve the local community, the ability to be objective, independent and impartial with sound decision making skills. This is a voluntary position but reasonable travelling expenses and subsistence incurred in the role will be paid. The closing date for applications is noon, Friday 10 June 2022.
