ROAD TRAFFIC REGULATION ACT 1984 - SECTION 14
THE A66 TRUNK ROAD (EASTBOUND & WESTBOUND - STAINMORE)
(TEMPORARY RESTRICTION AND PROHIBITION OF TRAFFIC) ORDER 2022
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that National Highways Limited (Company No. 09346363) intends to make an Order on the A66 Trunk Road, in the District of Eden, in the County of Cumbria, to enable resurfacing works, drainage works, barrier works, and other general maintenance; to be carried out in safety.
The Order will:
a) impose a 50 mph speed limit on the following sections of the A66 Trunk Road:
i. the eastbound carriageway, from a point 2,236 metres east of the A66 entry slip road at the A685 Brough Interchange, to a point 595 metres west of the south Stainmore Junction;
ii. the westbound carriageway, from a point 1,754 metres west of the south Stainmore Junction, to a point 1,771 metres east of the westbound A66 entry slip road at the A685 Brough Interchange.
b) ban all traffic from the following sections of the A66 Trunk Road:
i. the eastbound carriageway, from the last point of the exit slip road at Brough Interchange, to the first point of the westbound A66 entry slip road to the Stainmore Cafe;
ii. the westbound carriageway, from a point 554 metres west of the Pennine Way Bridge (Bowes Loop), to the junction with the unnamed road (U3322);
iii. the A685 Brough Interchange eastbound entry slip road, from the first point where the A685 joins the A66, for its full length;
iv. the A685 Brough Interchange westbound exit slip road, from where it leaves the A66, for its full length.
c) ban all traffic from the following laybys adjacent to the A66 Trunk Road:
i. the eastbound layby, located 1,270 metres east of the A66 entry slip road;
ii. the eastbound layby, located 478 metres west of North Stainmore Junction;
iii. the eastbound layby, located 1,920 metres east of North Stainmore Junction;
iv. the westbound layby, located 726 metres west of Pennine Way (Bowes Loop) Bridge;
v. the westbound layby, located 3,150 metres west of Pennine Way (Bowes Loop) Bridge;
vi. the westbound layby, located 4,100 metres west of Pennine Way (Bowes Loop) Bridge,
vii. the westbound layby, located 5,590 metres west of Pennine Way (Bowes Loop) Bridge;
viii. the westbound layby, located 8,430 metres west of Pennine Way (Bowes Loop) Bridge;
ix. the westbound layby, located 9,390 metres west of Pennine Way (Bowes Loop) Bridge;
x. the westbound layby, located 737 metres east of the westbound A66 entry slip road at the A685 Brough Interchange;
xi. the westbound layby, located 349 metres east of the westbound A66 entry slip road at the A685 Brough Interchange
d) ban all traffic from turning left or right from the A66 Trunk Road eastbound or westbound carriageways, into and out of, the U3572 Junction. Access will be maintained to these roads for residents via a marshal.
Restrictions a) are expected to take place during a continuous period starting at 20:00 on Saturday 25 June 2022 and ending at 06:00 on Thursday 25 August 2022.
Prohibitions b) ii and iv are expected to be in place overnight between 22:00 and 06:00 during a period starting on Sunday 26 June 2022 and ending on Monday 27 June 2022 repeating again between the same hours starting on Tuesday 23 August 2022 and ending on Wednesday 24 August 2022.
Prohibitions b) i and iii and d) are expected to be in place overnight between 22:00 and 06:00 during a period starting on Monday 27 June 2022 and ending on Tuesday 28 June 2022 repeating again between the same hours starting on Wednesday 24 August 2022 and ending on Thursday 25 August 2022.
Prohibitions c) i and iii-xi are expected to be in place overnight between 22:00 and 06:00 during a period starting on Friday 24 June 2022 and ending on Tuesday 28 June 2022 repeating again between the same hours on Wednesday 24 August 2022 and ending on Thursday 25 August 2022. Prohibition c) ii is expected to be in place overnight between 22:00 and 06:00 during a period starting on Friday 24 June 2022 and ending on Saturday 25 June 2022.
However, works may start and continue during subsequent continuous periods or between the same times on subsequent nights, until completed. The restrictions will not apply to emergency services or special-forces vehicles, and the prohibitions will not apply to emergency services, works, or traffic officer vehicles. The restrictions and prohibitions will only apply during such times and to such extent as shall, from time to time, be indicated by traffic signs.
