The Environment Agency has applied to the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs for consent under section 38 of the Common Act 2006 to carry out restricted works on Gooseholme Common. The Planning Inspectorate will decide the application on behalf of the Secretary of State. The proposed works are for the installation of a new pumping station and outfall structure for Stock Beck as part of the Kendal Flood Risk Management Scheme Phase 1. In addition, landscaping will be completed to Gooseholme Common with new flood defences and gates to the north of the site. The proposed works will cover the whole of Gooseholme Common with new culvert piping to the outfall structure running under the current pedestrian footpath through the park. The proposed pumping station is part of a complex network of measures linking back to a new Motor Control Centre outside the Common to operate the pumping measures. The Application will be available for comment until the 29th April 2022.
