THE A590 TRUNK ROAD EASTBOUND & WESTBOUND (BACKBARROW) (TEMPORARY RESTRICTION AND PROHIBITION OF TRAFFIC) ORDER 2022 NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that National Highways Limited (Company No. 09346363) has made an Order on the A590 Trunk Road in the District of South Lakeland in the County of Cumbria to enable the renewal of road markings and signage, and other general maintenance; to be carried out in safety. The Order will:
a) impose speed limits on the following sections of the A590 Trunk Road:
i. a 30 mph speed limit, on the eastbound and westbound carriageways, from a point 50 metres of the junction with the B5278, to a point 165 metres west of the junction for Lakeside/Hawkshead;
ii. a 10 mph speed limit, on the eastbound and westbound carriageways, from a point 430 metres east of the junction
with the B5278, to a point 830 metres
west of the junction for Lakeside/ Hawkshead. The 10 mph speed limit will apply for safety reasons through the works area when traffic will be escorted by a highway maintenance vehicle.
b) ban all traffic from the following laybys adjacent to the A590 Trunk Road:
i. the eastbound layby located 700 metres after the junction (cross roads) with
B5278/Lanes End;
ii. the westbound layby located 1,100 metres after the roundabout with the A592 at Newby Bridge village.
c) ban all traffic from turning left or right at the following junctions of the A590 Trunk Road:
i. Brow Edge Junction;
ii. Backbarrow Junction 1;
iii. Backbarrow Junction 2.
d) ban all traffic from the following bus stop laybys on the A590 Trunk Road:
i. the eastbound bus stop layby located 223 metres after the junction with Brow Edge Road
ii. the westbound bus stop layby located 150 metres before the junction with Brow Edge Road.
Restriction a) i, prohibition b) is expected to be in place during a continuous period, starting at
06:00 on Monday 14 March 2022 and ending
at 06:00 on Friday 15 April 2022. Restrictions a) ii and Prohibitions c) and d) are expected to be in place overnight between 19:00 or 20:00 (subject to traffic signs) and
06:00, starting on Monday 14 March 2022 and
ending on Tuesday 15 April 2022. However, works may start and continue during subsequent continuous periods or between the same times on subsequent nights, until completed.
Diversion routes via alternative junctions of the A590 Trunk Road and local roads will be well signed.
Temporary placements of the bus stops may be required, and will be well signed. The restrictions will not apply to emergency services or special-forces vehicles, and the prohibitions will not apply to emergency services or works vehicles. The restrictions and prohibitions will only apply during such times and to such extent as shall be indicated by traffic signs.
