ROAD TRAFFIC REGULATION ACT 1984 -SECTION 14
THE A66 TRUNK ROAD (EMBLETON) [TEMPORARY RESTRICTION AND PROHIBITION OF TRAFFIC) ORDER 2022 NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that National Highways Limited (Company No. 09346363) has made an Order on the A66 Trunk Road, in the Borough of Allerdale, in the County of Cumbria, to enable resurfacing works, bridge, lighting and survey works, signage replacements, and other general maintenance works to be carried out in safety. The Order will:
a) impose speed limits on the following sections of the A66 Trunk Road:
i. a 40 mph speed limit, on the eastbound and westbound carriageways, from a point 5 metres west of Strawberry How Road overbridge, to a point 930 metres east of the junction between the A66 and the B5291;
ii. a 10 mph speed limit, on the eastbound and westbound carriageways, from a point 375 metres west of the junction between the A66 and the C2028, to a point 600 metres east of the junction between the A66 and the U2179. The 10mph limit will apply for safety reasons through the works area where traffic will be escorted by a highway maintenance vehicle.
b) ban all traffic from the following laybys adjacent to the A66 Trunk Road located:
i. on the eastbound carriageway, 230 metres east of the junction with the C2028;
ii. on the westbound carriageway, 230 metres east of the junction with C2027.
c) ban all traffic from turning left or right, into and out of, the following junctions of the A66 Trunk Road:
i. Station Terrace (C2028)/A66 junction (north of the A66);
ii. Station Terrace (C2028/A66 junction (south of the A66);
iii. Embleton Junction (U2179)/A66 junction (north of the A66);
iv. Unclassified road linking the A66 and C2064, situated 600 metres east of the Embleton Junction.
Restriction a) i and prohibitions b and c are expected to be in place during a continuous period, starting at 06:00 on Monday 7 February 2022 and ending at 20:00 on Friday 11 March 2022. Restriction a) ii is expected to be in place overnight between 20:00 and 06:00, starting on Monday 7 February 2022 and ending on Saturday 12 March 2022. However, works may start and continue during subsequent continuous periods or between the same times on subsequent nights, until completed. Diversion routes via alternative junctions of the A66 Trunk Road and local roads will be well signed. The restrictions will not apply to emergency services or special-forces vehicles, and the prohibitions will not apply to emergency services or works vehicles. The restrictions and prohibitions will only apply during such times and to such extent as shall be indicated by traffic signs.
