Notice ID: MFN0623779
A282 TRUNK ROAD (DARTFORD CROSSING) TEMPORARY TRAFFIC RESTRICTIONS
Notice is hereby given that Highways England Company Limited intends to make an Order on the A282 Trunk Road in the County of Kent and the Unitary Authority of Thurrock, under Section 14(1)(a) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 because works are proposed to be executed on the road. The effect of the Order would be:-
1) to authorise the overnight closure of -
a) the anti-clockwise carriageway of the A282 between the crossovers north and south of River Thames (both tunnel bores);
b) all the slip and link roads leading to and from the carriageway in a) above;
c) the road leading to the anti-clockwise carriageway of the A282 at Junction 1 a (A206), including the fast link leading from the westbound A206 at the western roundabout;
d) the road leading to the anti-clockwise carriageway of the A282 at Junction 1 b (A225/A296); and
e) the road leading to the clockwise carriageway of the A282 at Purfleet Interchange (M25 Junction 31/A1306);
2) to operate a contraflow between the crossovers north and south of River Thames on Queen Elizabeth II Bridge to the effect that traffic proceeding anti-clockwise will do so on the outside lane of the bridge. (Traffic will be reduced to a single lane clockwise with two lanes closed to isolate the streams).
These measures would be in the interests of road safety while contractors undertake a Tunnel Safety Exercise which shall include a function test on both bores of the Dartford Tunnel emergency back-up and safety systems, and required, as identified, defect repairs and maintenance activities. It is expected that the work would last for approximately 1 day starting on Saturday 2nd October 2021. The closures would take place between 20:30 and 06:00 (maximum period). The Order would come into force on 30 September 2021 and have a maximum duration of eighteen months, ceasing when the exercise is complete.
Traffic affected by the slip road closures would be diverted using other junctions of the A282 and M25 (Junction 2 (A2) and Junction 30 (A13) as appropriate). The temporary closures, contraflow, and diversion routes would be clearly indicated by traffic signs when they are in operation during the works period.
