Notice ID: MFN0622775
M27 MOTORWAY (JUNCTION 8) TEMPORARY TRAFFIC RESTRICTIONS
Notice Is hereby given that Highways England Company Limited intends to make an Order on the M27 Motorway in the County of Hampshire, under Section 14(1)(a) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 because works are proposed to be executed on the road. The effect of the Order would be to: -
1. authorise the overnight closure of all slip roads leading to and from both carriageways of the M27 at Junction 8 (A27).
2. impose a 24-hour 40-mph speed limit on -
(a) the road leading from the eastbound carriageway of the M27 at Junction 8 (A27);
(b) the road leading to the eastbound carriageway of the M27 at Junction 8 (A27), between the roundabout and a point 210 metres south of the roundabout;
(c) the road leading from the westbound carriageway of the M27 at Junction 8 (A27); and
(d) the road leading to the westbound carriageway of the M27 at Junction 8 (A27), between the roundabout and a point 400 metres north of the roundabout.
3. impose a 24-hour width restriction of 3.25 metres in lane 1 and 3.0 metres in lane 2 on -
(a) the road leading from the eastbound carriageway of the M27 at Junction 8 (A27), between a point 260 metres south of the diverge with the main carriageway (of the M27) and the roundabout;
(b) the road leading to the eastbound carriageway of the M27 at Junction 8 (A27), between the roundabout and a point 140 metres south of the diverge with the roundabout;
(c) the road leading from the westbound carriageway of the M27 at Junction 8 (A27) between a point 70 metres north of the diverge with the main carriageway (of the M27) and the roundabout; and
(d) the road leading to the westbound carriageway of the M27 at Junction 8 (A27), between the roundabout and a point 140 metres north of the diverge with the roundabout
These measures would be in the interests of road safety while contractors undertake junction improvement works and all associated works. The timing of the works is currently uncertain. The proposed schedule would have brought the order into force on the 18th September 2021, with works commencing on or after Monday 20th September 2021 and lasting for approximately 7 months, however the development may be subject to Public Inquiry.
The overnight closures would take place between 20:00 and 06:00 (maximum period).
The Order would come into force following the resolution of the Public Inquiry if permitted and have a maximum duration of eighteen months, ceasing when the works are complete.
Traffic affected by the closure would be diverted via other junctions of the M27 or by using the A27, A334 and the A3024. The temporary closures, speed limit, narrow lanes and diversion routes would be clearly indicated by traffic signs when they are in operation during the works period.
