A27 TRUNK ROAD (HANGLETON, COLDEAN, NEAR BRIGHTON) TEMPORARY TRAFFIC RESTRICTIONS
Notice is hereby given that Highways England Company Limited intends to make an Order on the A27 Trunk Road in the County of East Sussex and the Unitary Authority of the City of Brighton and Hove, under Section 14(1)(a) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 because works are proposed to be executed on the road. The effect of the Order would be: -
1) to authorise the overnight closure of;
a) both carriageways of the A27 between Holmbush Interchange (A270) and Devil's Dyke Interchange (A2038);
b) both carriageways of the A27 between Southeram Roundabout (A26) and Hollingbury Interchange;
c) the road linking the northbound carriageway of the A270 (from its junction with Stony Mere Way) to the eastbound carriageway of the A27;
d) all of the slip roads leading to and from the carriageways described in a) and b) above;
e) both carriageways of the road linking the north and south roundabouts at Hangleton Interchange (A293)
f) any side roads at junction with the carriageways described in a) and b) above;
g) all of the bus stops adjacent to the carriageways described in a) and b) and the link road in c) above;
2) to authorise the 24-hour closure of all of the lay-bys adjacent to the carriageways described in 1) a) and b) above; and
3) to impose a mandatory 24-hour 50 mph speed restriction on the carriageways described in 1) a) and the westbound carriageway in b) above when not closed, and all the slip roads leading to them.
These measures would be in the interests of road safety while contractors undertake drainage and surface flooding prevention and all associated works. It is expected that the work would last for approximately 4 months starting on or after Wednesday 1 st September 2021. The overnight closures would take place between 20:00 and 06:00 (maximum period). The Order would come into force on 30 August 2021 and have a maximum duration of eighteen months, ceasing when the works are complete.
Traffic affected by the closures in 1) a) would be diverted using the A270 and A2038 in both directions. Traffic affected by the closure in 1) b) would be diverted using the A23, A26, A27, and A259. Traffic affected by the closure in 1) c) would be diverted using the A270 and Coldean Lane to return using Hollingbury Interchange. Access to properties fronting the carriageways described in 1) a) and b) above would be maintained under works control. The temporary closures, speed restrictions, and diversion routes would be clearly indicated by traffic signs when they are in operation during the works period.
