ADOPTION OF ENFIELD'S BLUE & GREEN STRATEGY

Notice ID: WAT2128268

Notice effective from
30th June 2021 to 30th July 2021

ADOPTION OF ENFIELD'S BLUE & GREEN STRATEGY
Notice is hereby given that Enfield London Borough Council has adopted a new strategy on the delivery of blue and green infrastructure.
"Enfield's Blue and Green Strategy: Valuing our Parks, Trees, Open Spaces, Routes and Watercourses"
This document sets out our 10-year strategy to protect, maintain and expand Enfield's network of blue and green assets, with an ambition to become the greenest of all London boroughs.
The strategy will also be used to guide the provision of blue and green infrastructure - parks, rivers, gardens, woodlands, canals, wetlands, allotments and playing pitches - in association with future development and investment to address deficiencies across the borough. Some of the key projects of the strategy include:
* Enfield Chase - over 300 hectares of new publicly accessible woodland and rewilding initiatives;

* provision of new world-class sporting facilities at Enfield Playing Fields, Hotspur Way and Firs Farm;

* expansion of the borough's cycle and pedestrian network, including to and from the Lee Valley Regional Park and other key destinations;

* Green Loop - a new circuitous route along the river valleys to link east-to-west and north-to-south;
* grey-to-green gateways - a series of public realm interventions in and around our town centres;

* an ongoing programme of wetland projects to restore Enfield's urban rivers; and

* landscape restoration of historic parks and gardens at risk.

The strategy replaces the existing Parks and Open Space Strategy and updates the objectives of the Biodiversity Action Plan in response to the Covid-19 pandemic and the threats arising from climate change.
The strategy and supporting documents are available to view or download from our website at

Copies of the documents are also available at our borough's hub and community libraries.
The strategy is the result of extensive public consultation (November 2020 - January 2021) and preparation.
Next steps:
We will use this strategy to work with residents, community groups and other stakeholders to decide on more detailed action to maximise the multi-functional benefits of Enfield's blue and green assets. ,
