THE A66 TRUNK ROAD (CUMBRIAN BORDER TO BOWES) (TEMPORARY RESTRICTION AND PROHIBITION OF TRAFFIC) NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that Highways England Company Limited has made an Order on the A66 Trunk Road, in the Counties of Cumbria and County Durham, to enable carriageway construction, signing, lining, safety barrier, drainage and resurfacing works to be carried out in safety. The works are expected to start at 00:01 hours on Saturday 5 June 2021 for 8 weeks, or until completed.
that Highways England Company Limited has made an Order on the A66 Trunk Road, in the Counties of Cumbria and County Durham, to enable carriageway construction, signing, lining, safety barrier, drainage and resurfacing works to be carried out in safety. The works are expected to start at 00:01 hours on Saturday 5 June 2021 for 8 weeks, or until completed.
The effect of the Order will be, for 24 hours a day, at times during the works, to impose a temporary 50mph, 40mph, 30mph and at times a 10mph speed restriction on the A66:
(i) eastbound and westbound carriageways from 1400 metres west of the Cumbrian Border to 500 metres east of Clint Lane overbridge, a distance of 11430 metres;
(ii) eastbound and westbound carriageways from 500 metres east of Clint Lane overbridge to 2400 metres east of Clint Lane overbridge, a distance of 1900 metres; and
(iii) eastbound carriageway from 1300 metres west of the exit slip road at Brough to
1870 metres east of the exit slip road at Brough Snow Gates, a distance of 3170 metres. The 10mph limit will only apply when, for safety reasons, traffic has to be escorted through the works by a highway maintenance vehicle. It will also be necessary, for 24 hours a day, at times during the works, to:
(iv) close the A66 westbound and eastbound carriageways from a point 500 metres east of Clint Lane overbridge to the gap in the central reservation at Old Spital Farm, a distance of 8900 metres; during which times traffic will be diverted onto the opposite carriageway using a contraflow system;
(v) close the eastbound entry slip road at Brough Interchange;
(vi) close the A66 westbound entry slip road at Bowes Interchange;
(vii) ban vehicles with an overall width exceeding 9'9" to enter or proceed in specified lanes of the A66 eastbound and westbound carriageways from the gap in the central reservation at Old Spital Farm to 500 metres east of the centre point of Clint Lane overbridge, a distance of 8900 metres;
(viii) close the gaps in the central reservation of the A66 approximately 1570 metres east, 2820 metres east, 3260 metres east, 4040 metres east and 5500 metres east of the Cumbrian Border;
(ix) close the gaps in the central reservation of the A66 approximately 3750 metres west, 2970 metres west, 1840 metres west and 610 metres west of Clint Lane overbridge;
(x) close the gap in the central reservation of the A66 at the Cumbrian Border;
(xi) close the laybys situated adjacent to the A66 eastbound carriageway from the exit slip road at Brough Interchange to 500 metres east of Clint Lane overbridge, a distance of 21000 metres;
(xii) ban vehicles from entering or leaving the A66 eastbound and westbound carriageways as described in (i), (ii) and (xi);
(xiii) close the bus stop areas adjacent to the A66 eastbound carriageway approximately 120 metres west of Clint Lane overbridge;
(xiv) close the bus stop area adjacent to the A66 eastbound exit slip road approximately 165 metres east of its diverge with the eastbound carriageway at Bowes Interchange;
(xv) close the bus stop area adjacent to the A66 westbound entry slip road approximately 305 metres east of its merge with the westbound carriageway at Bowes Interchange; and
(xvi) ban cyclists, horse drawn carriages and non-motorized transport on the A66 eastbound carriageway as described in (iv)
During the closures suitably signed alternative routes will be available at all times. It will also be necessary, between 7pm and 7am to close, the eastbound carriageway from the exit slip road at Brough Interchange to 500 metres east of Clint Bridge Interchange, a distance of 21000 metres; Traffic management will be in force 24 hours a day and traffic signs will indicate the extent of the restrictions (which will not apply to emergency service vehicles or special forces vehicles) and prohibitions (which will not apply to emergency service vehicles or vehicles being used in connection with the said works or for traffic officer or winter maintenance purposes). Access will be maintained at all times to premises and properties which are accessible from, and only from, the A66.
