A33 TRUNK ROAD - KINGSWORTHY LINK TEMPORARY TRAFFIC RESTRICTIONS
Notice is hereby given that Highways England Company Limited intends to make an Order on the A33 Trunk Road in the County of Hampshire, under Section 14(1)(a) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 because works are proposed to be executed on the road. The effect of the Order would be:-
1) to authorise the overnight closure of the southbound carriageway of the A33 between its southern junction with the B3047 (London Road) and its merge with the A34: and when not closed;
2) to impose a 24-hour mandatory speed restriction of 40 miles per hour on the southbound carriageway of the A33 between points approximately 410 metres and 955 metres south of the centreline of its northern junction with the B3047;
3) to impose a 24-hour 3 metres lane width restriction in either lane (when the other is closed) of the southbound carriageway of the A33 between points 190 metres and 955 metres south of the centreline of its northern junction with the B3047; and
4) to authorise the 24-hour closure of the footway adjacent to the southbound carriageway of the A33 between points 740 metres and 845 metres south of the centreline of its northern junction with the B3047.
These measures would be in the interests of road safety while contractors undertake the A34 Irrigation Stream Waterproofing Scheme, incorporating drainage works, resurfacing and bridge works, and all associated works; It is expected that the work would last for approximately 12 weeks starting on or after Saturday 15th May 2021. The overnight closures would take place between 21:00 and 06:00 (maximum period). The Order would come into force on 13 May 2021 and have a maximum duration of eighteen months, ceasing when the works are complete.
Non-Heavy Goods vehicles wishing to reach the A34/M3 would be diverted via the B3047 (east), A31, and the A272. Heavy Goods vehicles would be diverted northbound on the A33 and A30 to join the M3 at Junction 7 (A30) and return. Local access to the B3047 (west) would remain open for light vehicles. Pedestrians affected by the footway closure would be directed to use a segregated area at the side of the road.
The temporary closures, speed and width restrictions, and diversion routes would be clearly indicated by traffic signs when they are in operation during the works periods.
