A34 TRUNK ROAD (OXFORD TO BULLINGTON) TEMPORARY TRAFFIC RESTRICTIONS
Notice is hereby given that Highways England Company Limited intends to make an Order on the A34 Trunk Road in the Counties of Oxfordshire and Hampshire, and the Unitary Authority of West Berkshire, under Section 14(1)(a) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 because works are proposed to be executed on the road. The effect of the Order would be to authorise:-
1. the overnight closure of -

(a) the southbound carriageway of the A34 Peartree Interchange (A44) and South Hinksey;

(b) the southbound carriageway of the A34 between Tothill Interchange (B4640) and Bullington Cross Interchange (A30/A303); and

(c) both carriageways of the A30 between the north-western roundabout and centreline of the junction with the slip roads leading to and from the westbound carriageway of the A303;

(d) all slip roads leading to and from the lengths of carriageway described in 1. (a) and (b) above;

(e) the slip road leading to the southbound carriageway of the A34 at Bullington Cross Interchange (A30/A303);

(f) all side roads at junction with the lengths of carriageway described in 1. (a) and (b) above; and

(g) the footway adjacent to the southbound carriageway of the A34 between the entry slip road at Botley Interchange (A420) and the roundabout at South Hinksey junction.

2. the 24-hour closure of all lay-bys adjacent to the lengths of carriageway described in 1. (a) and (b) above.

These measures would be in the interests of road safety while contractors undertake carriageway works, electrical works, bridge works, drainage works and all associated works. It is expected that the work would last for approximately 4 months starting on or after Monday 10th May 2021. The overnight closures would take place between 21:00 and 06:00 (maximum period).
The Order would come into force on 8th May 2021 and have a maximum duration of eighteen months, ceasing when the works are complete. Traffic affected by the closures would be diverted via other junctions of the A34 or by using the A40, A44, A303, A339, A340, A423, A4142 and the B4640. The diversion route would vary depending on the closure in force. Access to properties in the closure would be maintained under escort. The temporary closures and diversion routes would be clearly indicated by traffic signs when they are in operation during the works period.
