LATE NIGHT LEVY - ESTIMATE OF DEDUCTIONS FOR 2020/21 SOUTHAMPTON CITY COUNCIL
POLICE REFORM AND SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY ACT 2011, PART 2, CHAPTER 2
THE LATE NIGHT LEVY (EXPENSES, EXEMPTIONS AND REDUCTIONS) REGULATIONS 2012
Regulation 3(1) of the Late Night Levy (Expenses, Exemptions and Reductions) Regulations 2012 describes the categories of expenses which a licensing authority may deduct for the purposes of calculating the net amount of levy payments for any period. Section 130(5)(a) of the Police Reform and Social Responsibility Act 2011 requires a licensing authority to publish, before the beginning of each levy year, a statement of its estimate of the amount of deductions permitted under those Regulations.
Southampton City Council has opted to cease the late night levy after 31 st March 2021, the end of the current levy year. Due to Coronavirus restrictions imposed on the hospitality trade the council anticipates a number of businesses will pay last years late night levy after 31 st March 2021 and the council will therefore incur some administration costs into a period after the late night levy has ceased. For this reason we are publishing this estimate to keep within the spirit of the regulations and for transparency.
For the period after 31st March 2021, Southampton City Council estimates that the amount of permitted deductions will be £2,000.
