The MWRs implement, in relation to certain marine works, Council Directive 85/337/EEC on the assessment of the effects of certain public and private projects on the environment (the "EIA Directive") into UK Law.
The ElAs for the above projects were carried out following applications for marine licences under the Marine and Coastal Access Act 2009. The MMO must ensure that applications for activities that require an EIA are compliant with the MWRs before a marine licence is granted.
