ANNOUNCEMENT OF INTENTION NOT TO PREPARE
AN ENVIRONMENTAL STATEMENT
(Regulation 5 of the Environmental Impact Assessment (Land Drainage Improvement Works) Regulations 1999 as amended by SI 2005/1399 and SI 2006/618
Bestwall Bank Renovation, Wareham
The Environment Agency gives notice that it proposes to carry out improvement works to 800m of Bestwall bank on the left bank of the River Frome downstream from Wareham (between NGR SY 925 871 and SY 933 869). The objective is to restore the bank to its original design level and cross section. This is in line with the approved Poole and Wareham Flood and Coastal Erosion Risk Management Strategy 2013.
The proposed works will involve: forming a temporary access track across farmland; removing vegetation from the crest and landward face of the bank; using soil fill from landward of the bank to raise the bank to the required level; desilting the parallel Delph ditch which has become blocked and overgrown; placing material from desilting to bring the bank to its final level; removing the access track.
The Environment Agency in discussion with Natural England considers that the improvement works are not likely to have significant effects on the environment, and does not intend to prepare an environmental statement in respect of them. An environmental report has been produced which summarises the works and an assessment of their likely environmental effects. This is available for viewing at the Environment Agency's office in Blandford Forum, between 10am and 4pm Monday to Friday. The full address is: Rivers House, Sunrise Business Park, Higher Shaftesbury Road, Blandford Forum, DT11 8ST.
Any person wishing to make representations in relation to the likely environmental effects of the proposed improvement works should do so, in writing, to the address specified below, within 28 days of the date of publication of this notice.
