THE ELECTRICTY GENERATING STATIONS (VARIATION OF CONSENTS) (ENGLAND AND WALES) REGULATIONS 2013 (THE VARIATION REGULATIONS) REGULATION 5(5) THE ELECTRICITY WORKS (ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT ASSESSMENT) (ENGLAND AND WALES) REGULATIONS 2000 (AS AMENDED) REGULATION 9 GATEWAY ENERGY CENTRE

Notice is hereby given that Gateway Energy Centre Limited (“GECL”) of 21 Holborn Viaduct, London, EC1A 2DY (the applicant) has submitted to the Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change (the appropriate authority), an application pursuant to Section 36c of the Electricity Act 1989 to vary both the consent (Ref: 01.08.10.04/462C) granted on 4 August 2011 under Section 36C of the Electricity Act 1989 (the Section 36 Consent) and the direction under Section 90 (2) of the Town and Country Planning Act 1990) (Section 90 direction) to construct and operate a 900MW combined cycle gas turbine generating station known as the Gateway Energy Centre at the Manorway, Stanford-le-Hope, Essex.
The application to vary the Section 36 Consent is for an increase to the generating capacity from around 900MW to up to 1250MW. GECL has since received notice under Regulation 4(6) of the Variation Regulations that the Secretary of State considers that the variation application is suitable for publication. The application is accompanied by an Updated Environmental Statement Further Information Document which considers the environmental effects of the changes proposed to the Gateway Energy Centre in relation to those described in the February 2010 Environmental Statement that was submitted with the original application for consent made on 26th February 2010 and the December 2010 Environmental Statement further information document.
