M271 MOTORWAY - NEAR SOUTHAMPTON TEMPORARY TRAFFIC RESTRICTIONS
Notice is hereby given that Highways England Company Limited has made an Order on the M271 Motorway in the County of Hampshire and the Unitary Authority of Southampton, under Section 14(1)(b) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 because of the likelihood of danger to the public. This forms an extension of Temporary Notice HE/2020/E801 (which it thereby replaces) as permitted by The Road Traffic (Temporary Restrictions) Procedure Regulations 1992, Regulation 7.
The effect of the Order would be to impose:-
a) a mandatory 24-hour 40 mph speed limit on the southbound carriageway of the M271 between the point at which it meets Redbridge Roundabout (A33/A35) and a point approximately 115 metres north of that point; and

b) a mandatory 24-hour 50 mph speed limit on-

i) the southbound carriageway of the M271 between a point 80 metres south of the centreline of Junction 1 (Nursling Interchange) northern overbridge and the commencement of the 40 mph speed limit as described in a) above; and

ii) the road leading to the southbound carriageway of the M271 between a point approximately 135 metres south of its divergence from the Junction 1 circulatory ((Nursling Interchange) and its merge with the carriageway described in i) above.

These measures are in the interests of road safety.
The Order will come into force on the 9th October 2020 and will remain in force as a temporary order for a maximum of eighteen months or until such time as it is replaced by a permanent Statutory Instrument, whichever is sooner.
The temporary speed restrictions will be clearly indicated by traffic signs when they are in operation during the danger period.
