THE A66 TRUNK ROAD (SMALLWAYS TO WEST LAYTON) TEMPORARY RESTRICTION AND PROHIBITION OF TRAFFIC) NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that Highways England Company Limited intend to make an Order on the A66 Trunk Road, in the District of Richmondshire, to enable carriageway resurfacing and associated road marking and road stud replacement works to be carried out in safety. The works are expected to start on Wednesday 14 October 2020 for 6 weeks, or until completed.
that Highways England Company Limited intend to make an Order on the A66 Trunk Road, in the District of Richmondshire, to enable carriageway resurfacing and associated road marking and road stud replacement works to be carried out in safety. The works are expected to start on Wednesday 14 October 2020 for 6 weeks, or until completed.
The effect of the Order will be, between 7pm and 6am, at times during the works, to:
(i) close the A66 eastbound carriageway from Smallways Junction to 250 metres east

of Browson Bank Junction, a distance of 1454 metres;
(ii) close the A66 westbound carriageway from 250 metres east of Browson Bank Junction to Smallways Junction, a distance of 1454 metres;

(iii) close the gaps in the central reservation of the A66 adjacent to Browson Bank Junction and Smallways Junction;

(iv) ban vehicles from entering or leaving the A66 at its junction with Browson Bank, Dick Scot Lane and Dalton;

(v) close the footpaths adjacent to the A66 at Browson Bank Junction and approximately 35 metres west and 175 metres west of Collier Lane Junction;

(vi) close the footway adjacent to Smallways Junction; and

(vii) close the bridleway adjacent to the A66 approximately 600 metres east of Browson Bank Junction.

During the closures suitably signed alternative routes will be available at all times. It will also be necessary, for 24 hours a day, at times during the works; to:
(i) close the laybys adjacent to the A66 eastbound carriageway at Dalton Junction and approximately 525 metres west of Clint overbridge;

(ii) close the layby adjacent to the A66 westbound carriageway approximately 500 metres west of Scotch Corner Interchange;

(iii) impose a temporary 50mph, 40mph, 30mph and at times a 10mph speed restriction on the A66 eastbound carriageway from 2500 metres west of Lanehead Lane Junction to 250 metres east of Browson Bank Junction, a distance of 4000 metres;

(iv) impose a temporary 50mph, 40mph, 30mph and at times a 10mph speed restriction on the A66 westbound carriageway from 250 metres east of Brownson Bank Junction to 2500 metres west of Lanehead Lane central reservation gap, a distance of 4000 metres; and

(v) impose a temporary 40mph, 30mph and at times a 10mph speed restriction on the A66 from 250 metres east of Browson Bank Junction to 1500 metres east of Collier Lane Junction, a distance of 3200 metres.

The 10mph limit will only apply when, for safety reasons, traffic has to be escorted through the works by a highway maintenance vehicle. Traffic signs will indicate the extent of the restrictions (which will not apply to emergency service vehicles or special forces vehicles) and prohibitions (which will not apply to emergency service vehicles or vehicles being used in connection with the said works, to anyone engaged in the said works or for winter maintenance or traffic officer purposes). Access will be maintained at all times to premises and property which are accessible from, and only from, the A66.The Order comes into force on 13 October 2020 and has a maximum duration of eighteen months.
