THE M6 MOTORWAY (JUNCTIONS 19-20 NORTHBOUND &
SOUTHBOUND CARRIAGEWAYS & SLIP & LINK ROADS) AND
THE M56 MOTORWAY (EASTBOUND & WESTBOUND LINK ROADS)
AND THE A50 TRUNK ROAD (LINK ROAD)
[TEMPORARY RESTRICTION AND PROHIBITION OF TRAFFIC)
ORDER 2020
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that Highways England Company Limited (Company No. 09346363) has made an Order on the M6 and M56 Motorways and the A50 Trunk Road, in the Boroughs of Cheshire East and Warrington, in the County of Cheshire, to enable resurfacing works, barrier works and other general maintenance; to be carried out in safety.
(a) The Order will impose a 50 mph speed restriction on the following sections of the M6 and M56 Motorways:
i. the M6 northbound carriageway, from Tabley Vale Lane Bridge, to the first point at which the J20 entry slip road joins the M6 northbound carriageway;
ii. the M6 southbound carriageway, from a point 1,800 metres north of Lymm Interchange Bridge, to the first point at which the J19 entry slip road joins the M6 southbound carriageway;
iii. the M6 northbound entry slip road at J19;
iv. the M56 westbound to M6 northbound link road, from the last point at which it leaves the M56 westbound to A50 northbound link road, to the first point at which it joins the M6 northbound carriageway;
v. the M56 eastbound to M6 northbound link road, from the last point at which it leaves the M56 eastbound carriageway to A50 northbound link road, to the first point at which it joins the M6 northbound carriageway;
vi. the A50 southbound to M6 southbound link road, from the last point at which it leaves the A50 southbound to M56 eastbound/ westbound link road, to the first point at which it joins the M6 southbound carriageway;
vii. the M56 eastbound to M6 southbound link road, from the last point at which it leaves the M56 eastbound to M6 northbound link road, to the first point at which it joins the M6 southbound carriageway.
(b) The Order will ban all traffic from the following sections of the M6 and M56 Motorways and the A50 Trunk Road:
i. the M6 northbound carriageway, from the last point at which the J19 exit slip road leaves the carriageway, to the first point at which the link road from the M56 westbound carriageway joins the M6 northbound carriageway at J20;
ii. the M6 southbound carriageway, from the last point at which J20A southbound link road to the M56 leaves the carriageway, to the first point at which the entry slip road at J19 joins the carriageway;
iii. the M6 northbound carriageway, from the last point at which the link road to the M56 westbound leaves the carriageway, to the first point at which the entry slip road at J20 joins the carriageway;
iv. the M6 southbound carriageway, from the last point at which the J20 exit slip road leaves the carriageway, to the first point at which the J20 entry slip road joins the carriageway;
v. the M6 northbound entry slip road at J19;
vi. the M6 southbound exit slip road at J19;
vii. the M6 northbound to M56 westbound link road;
viii. the M6 northbound to A50 link road, from the last point at which it leaves the M6 northbound to M56 westbound link road, to the first point at which it joins the M56 westbound to A50 northbound link road;
ix. the A50 southbound to M6 southbound link road, as described at (a) vi above;
x. the M56 eastbound to M6 southbound link road, as described at (a) vii above;
xi. the M56 westbound to M6 northbound link road, as described at (a) iv above;
xii. the M56 eastbound to M6 northbound link road, as described at (a) v above.
(c) The Order will allow the hard shoulder adjacent to the following lengths of carriageway, to be used as running lanes:
i. the northbound carriageway of the M6 Motorway, from a point 200 metres south of Old Hall Lane Bridge, to a point 200 metres south of first point at which the J20 entry slip road joins the carriageway;
ii. the southbound carriageway, from a point 490 metres north of Lymm Interchange Bridge, to a point 80 metres south of Manchester Road South Bridge.
A 50 mph speed limit will be in force on the hard shoulder when used as a running lane.
Restriction (c) and prohibitions (b) i-iv, vii-xii are expected to be in place overnight between 22:00 and 05:00 (07:00 on Saturday and Sunday mornings) during a period starting on Friday 18 September 2020 and ending on Monday 14 December 2020.
Prohibitions (b) v-vi are expected to be in place overnight between 20:00 and 05:00 (07:00 on Saturday and Sunday mornings) during a period starting on Friday 18 September 2020 and ending on Monday 14 December 2020.
Restrictions (a) are expected to be in place during a continuous period starting at 22:00 on Friday 18 September 2020 and ending at 05:00 on Monday 14 December 2020.
However, works may start and continue between the same times on subsequent nights, or during subsequent continuous periods, until completed.
Diversion routes via alternative junctions of the M6, M56 and local roads will be well signed.
The restrictions will not apply to emergency services or special-forces vehicles, and the prohibitions will not apply to emergency services, works, winter maintenance or traffic officer vehicles. The prohibitions and restrictions will only apply during such times and to such extent as shall, from time to time, be indicated by traffic signs. The Order comes into force on 17 September 2020 and has a maximum duration of eighteen months. For further information, contact
