ROAD TRAFFIC REGULATION ACT 1984 -SECTION 14
THE A1(M) MOTORWAY (JUNCTION 56 TO JUNCTION 59) (TEMPORARY RESTRICTION AND
PROHIBITION OF TRAFFIC)
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that Highways England Company Limited intends to make an Order on the A1(M) Motorway, in the County of North Yorkshire, to enable bridge joint replacements, trial holes and resurfacing works
to be carried out in safety. The works are expected to start on Monday 10 August 2020 for 8 weeks, or until completed, and will take place overnight between 8pm and 6am.
The effect of the Order will be to close, at times during the works, the A1(M):
(i) northbound carriageway from the exit slip road to the entry slip road at Junction 56 (Barton Interchange), a distance of 660 metres;
(ii) southbound carriageway from the exit slip road to the entry slip road at Junction 56, a distance of 800 metres;
(iii) northbound carriageway from exit slip road at Junction 57 (Blackwell Spur) to the entry slip road at Junction 59(Aycliffe), a distance of 11250 metres;
(iv) southbound carriageway from exit slip road at Junction 59 to the entry slip road at Junction 57,a distance of 11250 metres;
(v) northbound and southbound exit and entry slip roads at Junction 58 (Burtree)
(vi) northbound exit and southbound entry slip roads at Junction 59; and
During which times suitably signed alternative routes will be available at all times. It wil also be necessary at times during the works, to impose a temporary 50mph speed restriction on the, A1(M):
(i) northbound carriageway from 1510 metres south of Blackwell Spur overbridge to 1500 metres north of the River Tees (i) overbridge, a distance of 4735 metres; and
(ii) southbound carriageway from a point 1500 metres north of River Tees overbridge to 1510 metres north of the River Tees overbridge, a distance of 4735 metres;
Traffic signs will indicate the extent of the restrictions (which will not apply to emergency service vehicles or special forces vehicles) and prohibitions (which will not apply to emergency service vehicles or vehicles being used in connection with the said works or for winter maintenance or traffic officer purposes).
