THE A66 TRUNK ROAD (SCOTCH CORNER INTERCHANGE TO BOWES INTERCHANGE) (TEMPORARY RESTRICTION AND PROHIBITION OF TRAFFIC) NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that Highways England Company Limited intends to make an Order on the A66 Trunk Road, in the County of North Yorkshire and County Durham, to enable carriageway resurfacing, road marking and road stud works to be carried out in safety. The works are expected to start on Sunday 9 August 2020 for 8 weeks, or until completed. The effect of the Order will be between 8pm and 6am Sunday to Thursday nights, between 8pm and 8am Friday nights and between 8pm to 9am Saturday nights, to:
(i) impose a temporary 50mph, 40mph, 30mph and at times a 10mph speed restriction on the A66 carriageway from 1215 metres west of Clint overbridge to its junction with Scotch Corner Roundabout, a distance of 26,310 metres. The 10mph speed restriction will only apply when, for safety reasons, traffic has to be escorted through the works by a highway maintenance vehicle;
(ii) close the A66 carriageway from 479 metres east of Clint overbridge to its junction with Scotch Corner Roundabout, a distance of 24,670 metres; and
(iii) ban vehicles for entering or leaving the A66 at its junction with Moor Lane and Mainsgill Farm.
During the closures suitably signed alternative routes will be available. It will be necessary, for 24 hours a day, for the duration of the works, to close the laybys adjacent to the A66:
(i) eastbound carriageway approximately 250 metres east of Moor Lane/Mainsgill Farm Junction;
(ii) westbound carriageway approximately 270 metres west of Moor Lane/Mainsgill Farm Junction;
(iii) westbound carriageway approximately 783 metres west of its junction with Scotch Corner Interchange, which will be used as an abnormal load holding area;
(iv) eastbound carriageway approximately 528 metres west of Clint overbridge, which will be used as an abnormal load holding area; and
(v) eastbound carriageway approximately 425 metres east of the unnamed road leading to Thorpe, Greta Bridge, which will be used as an abnormal load holding area.
Traffic management will be in force 24 hours a day and traffic signs will indicate the extent of the restrictions (which will not apply to emergency service vehicles or special forces vehicles) and prohibitions (which will not apply to emergency service vehicles or vehicles being used in connection with the said works or for winter maintenance or traffic officer purposes). Access will be maintained at all times to premises and property which are accessible from, and only from, the A66. The Order comes into force on 8 August 2020 and has a maximum duration of eighteen months.
