Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984

The A23 Gla Road (Purley Cross, London Borough Of Croydon) (Temporary Prohibition Of Traffic And Stopping) Order 2020

1. Transport for London hereby gives notice that it has made the above named Traffic Order under section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 for the purpose specified in paragraph 2. The effect of the Order is summarised in paragraph 3.



2. The purpose of the Order is to enable resurfacing works to take place on Purley Cross Road and adjacent roads.



3. The effect of the Order will be to prohibit any vehicle from:



(1) entering, exiting or proceeding in a northbound direction on Brighton Road between Farthing Way and Lansdowne Road, local access will be maintained;



(2) entering, exiting, stopping or proceeding on Brighton Road between Lansdowne Road and Purley Cross;



(3) entering, exiting or proceeding on Banstead Road between Purley Cross and Foxley Lane, local access will be maintained;



(4) entering, exiting or proceeding on Russell Hill Road between Foxley Lane and Purley Cross, local access will be maintained;



(5) entering, exiting or proceeding in a southbound direction on Purley Way between Stafford Road and Russell Hill Road, local access will be maintained;



(6) entering, exiting or proceeding in a southbound direction on Brighton Road between Riddlesdown Road and Purley Cross, local access will be maintained;



(7) entering or proceeding on Whytecliffe Road South between its junctions with High Street -Purley and Godstone Road;



(8) entering or proceeding in a northbound direction on Godstone between Old Barn Lane and Foxley Hill Road, local access will be maintained;



(9) entering, exiting, stopping or proceeding on Godstone Road between Foxley Hill Road and Purley Cross;



(10) stopping on Purley High Street between Brighton Road and Purley Road;



(11) entering, exiting or proceeding on Purley Cross Gyratory.



The Order will also suspend the weight restrictions on Downs Court Road, Mitchley Avenue and Rectory Park between Sanderstead Hill/Limpsfield Road and Godstone Road.

Local access will be maintained by means of marshals. At certain times, as agreed with the store, there will be no access to the Tesco supermarket.

Works will be phased such that not all restrictions may apply at any one time.

The Order will be effective at certain times between 12:01 AM on the 20* March 2020 and 5:00 AM on the 12* July 2020 every Monday to Saturday 9:00 PM and 5:00 AM (ceasing 5:00 AM each Saturday morning) and each Sunday 8:00 PM to 5:00 AM Monday or when the works have been completed whichever is the sooner. The prohibitions will apply only during such times and to such extent as shall from time to time be indicated by traffic signs.

4. The prohibitions will not apply in respect of:



(1) any vehicle being used for the purposes of those works or for fire brigade, ambulance or police purposes;



(2) anything done with the permission or at the direction of a police constable in uniform or a person authorised by Transport for London.



5. At such times as the prohibitions are in force an alternative routes will be indicated by traffic signs:



(1) Godstone Road, Hillbury Road, Westhall Road, Limpsfield Road, Addington Road, Selsdon Park Road, Gravel Hill, Coombe Lane, Coombe Road, Lower Coombe Street, Davenant Road, Duppas Hill Road, Stafford Road or reverse and return to normal route of travel;



(2) Foxley lane, Purley Way, Stafford Road, Duppas Hill Road, Davenant Road, Lower Coombe Street, Coombe Road, Coombe Lane, Gravel Hill, Selsdon Park Road, Addington Road, Rectory Park, Mitchley Avenue Downs Court Road, Godstone Road or reverse and return to normal direction of travel;



(3) Brighton Road, Southbridge Road, Lower Coombe Street, Coombe Road, Coombe Lane, Gravel Hill, Selsdon Park Road, Addington Road, Rectory Park, Mitchley Avenue Downs Court Road, Godstone Road or reverse and return to normal direction of travel;



(4) Purley Road, Banstead Road, Foxley Lane, Smitham Bottom Lane, Woodcote Grove Road, Lion Green Road, Farthing Way to normal route of travel;



(5) Farthing Way, Brighton Road, Woodcote Grove Road, Smitham Bottom Lane, Foxley lane, Purley Way, Brighton Road, Purley High St, Brighton Road to normal route of travel.
