Notice is given in accordance with section 19(1) of the Education and Inspections Act 2006 that Southampton City Council intends to make prescribed alterations (increasing pupil numbers) to Springwell (Community Special) School. Section 14 of the Education Act 1996 places a general duty on Local Authorities to have particular regard to the need to secure special educational provision for pupils with special educational needs.
In order to ensure fair access to educational opportunity and promote the fulfilment of every child's educational potential, it is proposed that Springwell School should expand from its current (on-roll) capacity of 112 pupils to a capacity of 128 pupils.
Admission and transport arrangements for pupils attending
the school will not be affected by these proposals.
