A23 AND A27 TRUNK ROADS TEMPORARY TRAFFIC RESTRICTIONS
Notice is hereby given that Highways England Company Limited intends to make an Order on the A23 and A27 Trunk Roads in the Counties of East Sussex and West Sussex, and the Unitary Authority of the City of Brighton and Hove, under Section 14(1)(a) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 because works are proposed to be executed on the road. The effect of the Order would be to:-
1) authorise the phased overnight closure of –
i) both carriageways of the A23 between the tip of the nosing of the exit slip road at Bolney Crossways (A272) and London Road Roundabout, Patcham (A27);
ii) all the slip and link roads leading to and from the carriageways described in a) above;
iii) the road leading from the eastbound carriageway of the A27 at Patcham Interchange (A23);
iv) the road leading from the westbound carriageway of the A27 at Patcham Interchange (A23);
v) the road connecting the coast-bound carriageway of the A23 to the eastbound carriageway of the A27 spur road at Patcham Interchange (A27);
vi) all of the side roads at junction with the carriageways described in a) above; and vii) all of the bus stop areas adjacent to or in the carriageways described in a) above;
2) authorise the 24-hour closure of all the lay-bys adjacent to the carriageways described in 1. a) above;
3) authorise the overnight and 24-hour closure of –
i) both carriageways of the B2123 between Knights Gate Road and The Drove roundabouts comprising the A27 overbridge at Falmer Interchange (B2123);
ii) the roads leading to both carriageways of the A27 at Falmer Interchange (B2123);
iii) the bus stops adjacent to -
a) the road leading to the eastbound carriageway of the A27 at Falmer Interchange (B2123) between points approximately 40 metres and 75 metres west of Knights Gate Road roundabout; and
b) the westbound carriageway of the A27 at Falmer Interchange (B2123) between 140 metres and 70 metres east of the centreline of the B2123 overbridge; and
iv) the footways and cycle track adjacent to the carriageways described in 3.i) above
These measures would be in the interests of road safety while contractors undertake resurfacing and associated works, drainage, lighting, electrical, and signage maintenance, installation of Vehicle Restraint System (VRS), bridge parapet connections and bridgeworks including joint replacement. It is expected that the work would last for approximately 9 weeks starting on or after Monday 3rd February 2020, and would occur in several phases. The work would generally be conducted as overnight closures which would take place between 20:00 and 06:00 (maximum period), however as indicated in 2) above, some complete weekend closures would be needed. The Order would come into force on 1 February 2020 and have a maximum duration of eighteen months Traffic affected by the closures in 1) above would be diverted using other junctions on the A23 and A27, and by using the A24, A227, A272, A275, A277 and the A283. Traffic affected by the closures in 3) above would be diverted using other junctions on the A27. Pedestrians and cyclists would be directed to use Park Street footbridge. The temporary closures and diversion routes would be clearly indicated by traffic signs when they are in operation during the works period. J Downham, an Official of Highways England Co Ltd.
