Public Exhibition - Proposed Solar Farm
Low Carbon is considering developing a solar farm with battery storage and associated infrastructure on agricultural fields to the north west of Arncott. The site is separated from the village by the MOD base. One of the next steps would be to prepare and submit a planning application to Cherwell District Council. Low Carbon is a UK company committed to making a positive and significant impact on the causes of climate change. Low Carbon has funded the development of more than 322 megawatts of UK solar, generating enough clean energy to power more than 100,000 UK homes and saving in excess of 143,600 tonnes of CO2 each year. It is estimated that the solar panels would generate enough electricity to power approximately 8,125 homes. The battery storage system would charge at times of low demand and export power back
CO2
onto the electricity grid at times of high demand or when the sun is not shining. This means that the energy could be supplied at any time, day or night. The proposed site covers an area of approximately 57 hectares (140 acres). The land would remain in agricultural use throughout operation, with provision for sheep grazing on the land beneath and in between the solar panels. Low Carbon is holding a public exhibition (details below) as part of its pre-application consultation, which will provide an opportunity to meet members of the project team, ask questions, discuss the project and provide comments.
