A31 TRUNK ROAD - ASHLEY HEATH TO WEST MOORS
TEMPORARY TRAFFIC RESTRICTIONS
Notice is hereby given that Highways England Company Limited intends to make an Order on the A31 Trunk Road in the County of Dorset, under Section 14(1)(a) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 because works are proposed to be executed on the road. The effect of the Order would be to:-
1) authorise the overnight closure, in phased sections, of;

i) both carriageways of the A31 between Brocks Pine Roundabout and West Moors Junction (B3072);

ii) the road leading to the eastbound carriageway of the A31 at West Moors Junction (B3072);

iii) the road leading from the westbound carriageway of the A31 at West Moors Junction (B3072); and

iv) all of the side roads at junction with the carriageways described in i) above when the relevant section is closed;

2) authorise the overnight and 24-hour closure, as required, of;

i) any bus stop adjacent to the carriageways described in 1) i) above; and

ii) any lay-by adjacent to the carriageways described in 1) i) above;

3) authorise the 24-hour closure, in phased sections, of;

i) the footway adjacent to the westbound carriageway of the A31 between Boundary Lane Roundabout and Palmersford Roundabout (A31/A347), extending to a point on the A347 30 metres south of the end of the hatching on the nearside of Palmersford Roundabout (A31/A347); and

ii) the subway proceeding beneath the A31 approximately 375 metres south-west of Azalea Roundabout;

4) impose a 24-hour 50 mph speed restriction on the eastbound carriageway of the A31 between a point 456 metres west and a point 485 metres east of the centreline of the B3072 overbridge at West Moors Junction (B3072);

5) impose a 24-hour 30 mph speed restriction through works on;

i) the westbound carriageway of the A31 between Brocks Pine Roundabout and a point 140 metres west of Palmersford Roundabout (A31/A347)(at the National Speed Limit sign); and

ii) the eastbound carriageway of the A31 between a point 485 metres east of the centreline of the B3072 overbridge at West Moors Junction (B3072) and Brocks Pine Roundabout.

These measures would be in the interests of road safety while contractors undertake footway improvements, signage, lighting and barrier replacement, parapet and subway improvements, resurfacing, road-marking, stud replacement, and all associated works. It is expected that the work would last for approximately 7 months starting on or after Monday 2nd December 2019. The overnight closures would take place between 22:00 and 05:00 (maximum period). The Order would come into force on 30 November 2019 and have a maximum duration of eighteen months, ceasing when the works are complete.
Through traffic affected by the closures would be diverted using the A338 from Ashley Heath
Interchange (A338), the B3073, and the A347;
alternatively Wimborne Road East and the B3072. The diversion in operation would vary according to the closure in force. Access for residents and businesses whose sole access is from, or fronting, the A31 would be maintained by escort as required. Persons wishing to use the footway and subway described in 3) above would be advised to use signalled crossing points to cross and use the walkway adjacent to the eastbound carriageway of the A31. The temporary closures, speed restrictions, and diversion routes would be clearly indicated by traffic signs when they are in operation during the works period.
