A23 AND A27 TRUNK ROADS (NEAR BRIGHTON) TEMPORARY TRAFFIC RESTRICTIONS
Notice is hereby given that Highways England Company Limited intends to make an Order on the A23 and A27 Trunk Roads in the Counties of West Sussex and East Sussex, and the Unitary Authority of Brighton and Hove, under Section 14(1)(a) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 because works are proposed to be executed on the road. The effect of the Order would be to:-
1) authorise the phased overnight closure of;
a) the road leading to the eastbound carriageway of the A27 at Falmer Interchange (B2123);
b) the bus stop adjacent to the road described in a) above; and
c) Vale Avenue at junction with the westbound carriageway of the A27 spur road leading to Mill Road Roundabout at Patcham Interchange (A23); and
2) impose a 24-hour 50mph speed restriction on;
a) the northbound carriageway of the A23 between Mill Road Roundabout (A23/A27) and a point 1560 metres north;
b) the southbound carriageway of the A23 between a point 400 metres north of Braypool Road foot overbridge and Mill Road Roundabout (A23/A27);
c) both carriageways of the A27 between a point 220 metres north-east of the centreline of Devil's Dyke Interchange overbridge (A2038) and a point 400 metres east of the centreline of Patcham Interchange overbridge (A23);
d) the road leading to the eastbound carriageway of the A27 at Devil's Dyke Interchange (A2038);
e) the road leading to the eastbound carriageway of the A27 at Patcham Interchange (A23);
f) the road leading to the westbound carriageway of the A27 at Patcham Interchange (A23);
g) the road connecting the eastbound carriageway of the A27 to the London-bound carriageway of the A23 at Patcham Interchange (A23);
h) the road connecting to the A27 westbound entry slip from the eastbound carriageway of the A27 spur road at Patcham Interchange (A23).
These measures would be in the interests of road safety while contractors undertake surveys and investigations, drainage works, balancing pond maintenance work and all associated work.
It is expected that the work would last in phases for approximately 11 weeks starting on or after Monday 18th November 2019. The investigative work (requiring the closures in 1) above) at Falmer would take place overnight on the 18th November, and at Vale Avenue overnight on the 28th November The drainage and pond works will commence 25th November. The overnight closures would take place between 20:00 and 06:00 (maximum period).
The Order would come into force on 16 November 2019 and have a maximum duration of eighteen months.
Traffic affected by the closure in 1a) would be diverted westbound on the A27 to Lewes Road Junction (A270) and return. Traffic affected by the closure in 1c) would be diverted using the A27 spur, A23 and Church Hill. The temporary closures, speed restrictions, and diversion routes would be clearly indicated by traffic signs when they are in operation during the works period.
