Notice effective from

Highways England
ROAD TRAFFIC REGULATION ACT 1984 -SECTION 14
THE A64 TRUNK ROAD (OLD MALTON INTERCHANGE TO STAXTON ROUNDABOUT) (TEMPORARY RESTRICTION AND PROHIBITION OF TRAFFIC) NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that Highways England Company Limited has made an Order on the A64 Trunk Road, in the District of Ryedale, to enable carriageway widening and resurfacing, installation of ghost islands, refuge islands, footways and bus laybys, road marking and stud, drainage, sign replacement and cyclic and routine maintenance works to be carried out in safety. The works are expected to start on 1 October 2019 for 5 months, or until completed. The effect of the Order will be, between 7pm and 7am, at times during the works, to close the A64:
(i) westbound carriageway including its junctions and bus stop areas from 800 metres west of Bull Piece Lane Junction, Scagglethorpe to its junction with Staxton Roundabout a distance of 21450 metres;

(ii) eastbound carriageway including its junctions and bus stop areas from the exit slip road

at Old Malton Interchange eastwards for a distance of 3200 metres;
(iii) eastbound entry slip road at Old Malton Interchange; and

(iv) eastbound exit and entry slip roads at Brambling Fields Interchange

During the closures suitably signed alternative routes will be available at all times. It will also be necessary, for 24 hours a day, at times during the works, to:
(v) impose a temporary 40mph, and at times a 10mph, speed restriction on the A64 eastbound and westbound carriageways from 1000 metres west of Sandy Lane Junction, West Knapton to 1800 metres east of Sandy Lane Junction, a distance of 2800 metres. The 10mph limit will only apply when, for safety reasons, traffic has to be escorted through the works by a highway maintenance vehicle; and

(vi) close the laybys adjacent to the above lengths of carriageway as described in (i) and (ii).

Traffic management will be in force 24 hours a day and traffic signs will indicate the extent of the restrictions (which will not apply to emergency service vehicles or special forces vehicles) and prohibitions (which will not apply to emergency service vehicles or vehicles being used in connection with the said works, or for winter maintenance or traffic officer purposes). Access will be maintained at all times to premises and property which are accessible from, and only from, the A64. The Order comes into force on 30 September 2019 and has a maximum duration of eighteen months.
