A31 TRUNK ROAD - NEAR ST. LEONARDS AND WIMBORNE
TEMPORARY TRAFFIC RESTRICTIONS
Notice is hereby given that Highways England Company Limited intends to make an Order on the A31 Trunk Road in the County of Dorset, under Section 14(1)(a) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 because works are proposed to be executed on the road. The effect of the Order would be to authorise:-
1) the overnight phased closure of-

a) both carriageways of the A31 between Boundary Lane and Ashley Heath Roundabout (A338);

b) both carriageways of the A31 between Roundhouse Roundabout (A350) and Merley Roundabout (A349);

c) the slip road leading to the westbound carriageway of the A31 at Ashley Heath

Roundabout (A338);
d) the slip road leading from the eastbound carriageway of the A31 at Ashley Heath

Roundabout (A338);
e) all of the side roads at junction with a) - d) above; and

f) all of the bus stops adjacent to or in a) - d) above; and

2) the 24-hour closure of all of the lay-bys adjacent to a) - c) above.

These measures would be in the interests of road safety while contractors undertake street lighting replacement and associated works. It is expected that the work would occur in two phases. The first phase, involving 1) a), c) - d) and the appropriate parts of 1) e), f) and 2) above, would last for approximately 5 weeks starting on or after Monday 2nd September 2019. The second phase, involving 1) b and the appropriate parts of 1) e), f) and 2) above, would last for approximately 5 weeks starting on or after Monday 7th October 2019. The overnight closures would take place between 21:00 and 06:00 (maximum period). The Order would come into force on 31 August 2019 and have a maximum duration of eighteen months, ceasing when all the works are complete.
Traffic affected by the closures in 1) a), c) - d) above would be diverted using the A31, A338, A347, B3073, Woolsbridge Road, and Horton Road. Traffic affected by the closures in 1) b) above would be diverted using the A35, A341, A349, A350, B3073, and B3078. Access to properties reachable only from the A31 would be allowed under escort. The temporary closures and diversion routes would be clearly indicated by traffic signs when they are in operation during the works period.
