Notice effective from
25th July 2019 to 24th August 2019

SWARTH MOOR COMMON
Natural England has applied to the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs for consent under section 38 of the Commons Act 2006 to carry out restricted works on Swarth Moor Common. The Planning Inspectorate will decide the application on behalf of the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs. The proposed works are: (i) installation of peat bunds for restoration of the raised bog on 11.76 hectares; (ii) installation of viewing platform and boardwalk on 65 square metres; (iii) construction of three mitigation ponds for great crested newts on 300 square metres. The proposed works are located within Swarth Moor Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI), part of the common lying to the north of the Helwith Bridge to Austwick road. The proposal is intended primarily to enhance a national priority habitat (lowland raised bog) that is very rare within the Yorkshire Dales National Park. It also facilitates public access to, and understanding of, the SSSI, enabling visitors to appreciate the special wildlife of the common. A copy of the application form and accompanying documents can be inspected at the Yorkshire Dales Millennium Trust office, Main Street, Clapham, via Lancaster, LA2 8DP until the 30th of August 2019. The office is open Monday to Friday from 9am until 5pm. A copy of the application form and accompanying documents may be obtained by writing to Natural England at the address below. Any representations should be sent in writing ON or BEFORE that date to The Planning Inspectorate, Commons Team at 3A Temple Quay House, Temple Quay, Bristol, BS1 6PN or commonlandcasework@planninginspectorate.gov.uk. Representations sent to The Planning Inspectorate cannot be treated as confidential. They will be copied to the applicant and possibly to other interested parties.
