A31 TRUNK ROAD - BERE REGIS TO ROUNDHOUSE

TEMPORARY TRAFFIC RESTRICTIONS

Notice is hereby given that Highways England Company Limited intends to make an Order on the A31 Trunk Road in the County of Dorset, under Sections 14(1)(a) and 14(1)(b) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 because works are proposed to be executed on the road. The effect of the Order would be to:-

a) authorise the overnight closure of:-



i) both carriageways of the A31 between Bere Regis Roundabout (A35) and Roundhouse Roundabout (A350); and



ii) all of the side roads at junction with the carriageways described in i) above;



b) authorise the 24-hour closure of the following lay-bys:-



i) all adjacent to the carriageways described in a) i) above; and



ii) the lay-by adjacent to the eastbound carriageway of the A31 between a point 165 metres west of Azalea Roundabout and the roundabout itself; and



c) impose, over periods of 24 hours, a mandatory speed limit of 40 mph on the carriageways described in a) i) above.



These measures would be in the interests of road safety while contractors undertake resurfacing/surfacing, road markings, installation of traffic signs and other highways maintenance and associated works. It is expected that the work would last for approximately 2 weeks starting on or after Monday 8th July 2019. The overnight closures would take place between 19:00 and 08:00 (maximum period). The 40 mph speed limit would remain in force for a period of time following resurfacing to protect the surface and the travelling public. The Order would come into force on 6 July 2019 and have a maximum duration of eighteen months, ceasing when the speed restriction is removed.

Through traffic affected by the closures would be diverted using the A35 and A350. The temporary closures, speed limits, and diversion routes would be clearly indicated by traffic signs when they are in operation during the works period.
